QLD:Christmas prawns aplenty despite problems

Gladstone's fishing industry may be on the nose but there will still be plenty of prawns
for Christmas platters.

Queensland Seafood Industry Association boss WINSTON HARRIS says fishermen in Gladstone,
central Queensland, will do it tough this festive season because of continuing problems
with the water quality of the local harbour.

But elsewhere in Queensland, seafood stocks are adequate despite Gladstone's problems
and the natural disasters which severely disrupted the industry earlier this year.

Mr WINSTON says consumers wanting fresh prawns on Saturday should trawl their local
markets in the early morning.

Some of the best outlets for fresh prawns are Fisherman's Wharf, Mooloolaba; the Gold
Coast Fisherman's Co-operative, Main Beach; Mackay Reef Fish, Mackay and Ross River Marina,
Townsville.
