NSW: Inquiry launched into a baby left alone at daycare centre
The New South Wales government has launched an inquiry into how a five-month-old baby
girl was locked inside a childcare centre alone in Wagga Wagga, in the state's south-west.
It's understood the baby's mother turned up to collect her child last Thursday night
but found the centre locked up and no childcare workers on the premises.
After calls to staff, she was reunited with her baby girl who'd been locked inside
on her own for more than an hour.
It appears staff had left for the evening, unaware the baby was still asleep inside.
New South Wales Community Services Minister FAYE LO PO says there had been a serious
breach of the centre's licence and her department is investigating the incident.
A spokesman for the Minister says thankfully the state's high standard of licencing
and regulation of childcare centres insures these incidents are rare.
